Bread and Puppets Dreams III

In homage to the Bread and Puppet Theater, I also built a St. George and the Dragon pair of giant puppets for an outside masque on St. George's Day.

Here is St. George with my collaborator, Dot Davis. Dot pitched in and helped me stitch up St. George's metalic cloth toga. He was as you may know, a Roman soldier from Syria who gave his life defending Christians in the Arena during the third century. How on earth this Syrian made it to England to become the patron saint of the Royal Family is an interesting story. One for another day.

The dragon was a very different prospect. I decided to make the dragon mostly of balloons so that at some point in the masque a team of St. George's Angels--little children from the chuch--could set upon the dragon with wooden swords and slay the dragon by popping the balloons. What fun there was when the crowd of wooden sword wielding children put a quick end to the Dragon foe.

When Dragons cross labyrinths, it is clear myth must be alive and well, even in a church. We had so much fun, I also built some giant doves from a design I saw in one of Peter's books.I did write him and ask permission for the theft. Peter was very gracious in giving his blessing to my awkward execution of his graceful original.

There is such mystery and wonder to be found in the presence of giant puppets. We all owe a great debt to Peter and his great gift of the Bread and Puppet Theater. I owe an equal gift to our church and their willingness to host my mania for gigantic puppets. Alas those days are over, the puppets are stashed in some church attic never to see the light of day again probably. When doves, and dragons and St. George all gather on the green church commons can there be any doubt there is community and wholeness?

War on Terror a screen to Protect the Saudis

The Rand Study which recently takes the Bush Misadministration to task has missed the point entirely.
The Report writes: "The study by the nonpartisan Rand Corp. also contends that the administration committed a fundamental error in portraying the conflict with al-Qaeda as a 'war on terrorism.' The phrase falsely suggests that there can be a battlefield solution to terrorism, and symbolically conveys warrior status on terrorists, it said."

When the Bushies announced this strategy at the beginning of their misadministration I railed against it as completely stupid: You can't make war against a strategy. Terrorism is a strategy like Blitzkrieg or Guerilla warfare. You make war on an ideology perhaps, like a war on Communism or Fascism because you can see those who espouse such policies and you can observe their Civic structures.

In this case we have an enemy called radical Islam supported and financed by Bush's greatest friends, the Saudis. Indeed most of the terrorists who flew those planes into the Twin Towers and the Pentagon were Saudi nationals. The most virulent and radical of all Islamic sects is promoted, funded and sustained by billions of petro dollars emanating directly from the Saudi Royal Family.

How hard is that to see? So we call it the War on Terrorism so as not to speak the truth and identify those billionaires who have Daddy Bush on the payroll and who have bankrolled much of baby Bush's economic failures. The Saudis are the big winners in all this thanks to Bush. America is the big loser. Remind me again, why are we not impeaching him?

George W.Bush is the greatest friend of radical Islam that could ever be imagined. Everything he has done has been exactly programmatic of the attack of Radical Islam on America. He has bankrupted us nearly lying us into a 3 trillion dollar war. He has made us the great enemy of every ordinary Muslim. He has given radical Islam the best recruitment engine that could be imagined with the sensless Iraq war, a war designed to kill Saddam who tried to kill W's daddy. Gas is now at $4.00 exactly what Osama Bin Laden wanted. Can there be a greater enemy of America than George W. Bush, agent of the Royal Saudi Family?

Until we face the fact that it is the Saudi Royal Family who is our greatest enemy and move to deal with that enemy, we will never deal a fatal blow to Radical Islam. Until we send the agents of the Saudi Royal Family, The Bush Family, packing from political power, America will never be safe

Republicans Guilty of Bald Faced Lies at GOP Convention

Why do Repugs think they have to lie, and then lie again when they are confronting the opposition? The Republican lie machine is hard at work in Minneapolis.

By JIM KUHNHENN, Associated Press WriterWed Sep 3, 11:48 PM ET
Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and her Republican supporters held back little Wednesday as they issued dismissive attacks on Barack Obama and flattering praise on her credentials to be vice president. In some cases, the reproach and the praise stretched the truth.
Some examples:

PALIN: "I have protected the taxpayers by vetoing wasteful spending ... and championed reform to end the abuses of earmark spending by Congress. I told the Congress 'thanks but no thanks' for that Bridge to Nowhere."

THE FACTS: As mayor of Wasilla, Palin hired a lobbyist and traveled to Washington annually to support earmarks for the town totaling $27 million. In her two years as governor, Alaska has requested nearly $750 million in special federal spending, by far the largest per-capita request in the nation. While Palin notes she rejected plans to build a $398 million bridge from Ketchikan to an island with 50 residents and an airport, that opposition came only after the plan was ridiculed nationally as a "bridge to nowhere."

PALIN: "There is much to like and admire about our opponent. But listening to him speak, it's easy to forget that this is a man who has authored two memoirs but not a single major law or reform — not even in the state senate."

THE FACTS: Compared to McCain and his two decades in the Senate, Obama does have a more meager record. But he has worked with Republicans to pass legislation that expanded efforts to intercept illegal shipments of weapons of mass destruction and to help destroy conventional weapons stockpiles. The legislation became law last year. To demean that accomplishment would be to also demean the work of Republican Sen. Richard Lugar of Indiana, a respected foreign policy voice in the Senate. In Illinois, he was the leader on two big, contentious measures in Illinois: studying racial profiling by police and requiring recordings of interrogations in potential death penalty cases. He also successfully co-sponsored major ethics reform legislation.

PALIN: "The Democratic nominee for president supports plans to raise income taxes, raise payroll taxes, raise investment income taxes, raise the death tax, raise business taxes, and increase the tax burden on the American people by hundreds of billions of dollars."

THE FACTS: The Tax Policy Center, a think tank run jointly by the Brookings Institution and the Urban Institute, concluded that Obama's plan would increase after-tax income for middle-income taxpayers by about 5 percent by 2012, or nearly $2,200 annually. McCain's plan, which cuts taxes across all income levels, would raise after tax-income for middle-income taxpayers by 3 percent, the center concluded.

Obama would provide $80 billion in tax breaks, mainly for poor workers and the elderly, including tripling the Earned Income Tax Credit for minimum-wage workers and higher credits for larger families.

He also would raise income taxes, capital gains and dividend taxes on the wealthiest. He would raise payroll taxes on taxpayers with incomes above $250,000, and he would raise corporate taxes. Small businesses that make more than $250,000 a year would see taxes rise.

MCCAIN: "She's been governor of our largest state, in charge of 20 percent of America's energy supply ... She's responsible for 20 percent of the nation's energy supply. I'm entertained by the comparison and I hope we can keep making that comparison that running a political campaign is somehow comparable to being the executive of the largest state in America," he said in an interview with ABC News' Charles Gibson.

THE FACTS: McCain's phrasing exaggerates both claims. Palin is governor of a state that ranks second nationally in crude oil production, but she's no more "responsible" for that resource than President Bush was when he was governor of Texas, another oil-producing state. In fact, her primary power is the ability to tax oil, which she did in concert with the Alaska Legislature. And where Alaska is the largest state in America, McCain could as easily have called it the 47th largest state — by population.

MCCAIN: "She's the commander of the Alaska National Guard. ... She has been in charge, and she has had national security as one of her primary responsibilities," he said on ABC.

THE FACTS: While governors are in charge of their state guard units, that authority ends whenever those units are called to actual military service. When guard units are deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan, for example, they assume those duties under "federal status," which means they report to the Defense Department, not their governors. Alaska's national guard units have a total of about 4,200 personnel, among the smallest of state guard organizations.

FORMER ARKANSAS GOV. MIKE HUCKABEE: Palin "got more votes running for mayor of Wasilla, Alaska than Joe Biden got running for president of the United States."

THE FACTS: A whopper. Palin got 616 votes in the 1996 mayor's election, and got 909 in her 1999 re-election race, for a total of 1,525. Biden dropped out of the race after the Iowa caucuses, but he still got 76,165 votes in 23 states and the District of Columbia where he was on the ballot during the 2008 presidential primaries.

FORMER MASSACHUSETTS GOV. MITT ROMNEY: "We need change, all right — change from a liberal Washington to a conservative Washington! We have a prescription for every American who wants change in Washington — throw out the big-government liberals, and elect John McCain and Sarah Palin."

THE FACTS: A Back-to-the-Future moment. George W. Bush, a conservative Republican, has been president for nearly eight years. And until last year, Republicans controlled Congress. Only since January 2007 have Democrats have been in charge of the House and Senate.

How to tell when she's irritated

My oldest friend, Dr. Allan Stuber, sent me this reminder about how to handle women. He is a world class expert on the subject. His morale of this story is do not, repeat do not cheat on a liberated and vindictive woman.

John McCain's wandering eyes: Palin's got that special something

What was John McCain thinking about? Take a look at this amazing video. The body language tells all. Watch John McCain twist his wedding ring and stare at Palin's buttox. As Limbaugh observed, McCain is a skirt chaser living on someone elses inherited money. Now whose skirt is he chasing? What a sweet deal for daddy McCain.

A Note on the State of Modern Manhood

I guess I am astounded by what I am finding on Web 2.0. Perhaps it is that I am astounded by so much, and prepared for so little. Anyway when I accidentally came across the Penis Song in this Youtube.com video I was . . . well shall we say somewhat unprepared.

Now there is not a damn thing about this video that is obscene or the least bit pornographic, unless words are pornographic. That does not, however, prevent me from being . . . well shocked and nonplussed. I guess I will have to get used to this kinda thing.

On second thought, what I find amazing is that the star of this video seems to be 14 at best. Now where did this song come from? It is obviously a parody of the famous "I'm Too Sexy for My Shirt." It is not a parody really, but an inversion of what is an anthem to male sexuality.

So then this originated in a movie called The Sweetest Thing. It starred Christina Applegate, Cameron Diaz, Selma Blair to name just a few of the actors. By the time they are finished with the "I'm Too Sexy for My Shirt" anthem what we have left is an evisceration of maleness. These are the same women who would just as soon go to the sperm bank to get inseminated rather than have a man in their lives. These are the same women who think not only that size doesn't matter, but also it's men who don't matter at all. In this movie, the song becomes a song of liberation for women from the power of the phallus which has ruled the lives of women for thousands of years.

Here's the original clip with this song.

For the complete cast and description of this movie go here: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0253867/

There must be hundreds of parodies of this video on YouTube.Com. Guess I am REALLY out of the loop.

but not for long.

Palin, Really?

This is the main street of the little villiage of which Palin was mayor until she was elected Governor about 18 months ago.

She is on record earlier this summer as not knowing what the job of Vice President entailed. Amazing.

If McCain/Palin is elected it will be clear evidence America wants to die because their misadministration would be worse than the Bush/Cheney Misadministration. At least Cheney knew what he was doing.

Here we have a guy who graduated in the bottom of his class at the AirForce Academy into which he was permitted to enroll because his father and grandfather were Admirals. He is a know nothing, and now he has invited yet another know nothing to the table.

Lord preserve America if they get elected.

Apparently, she didn't even know what the Vice President did as recently as this summer. This is amazing.

Jack Cafferty nails this one on the head.

So who is Sara Palin? Olbermann and Maddow illuminate the choice.
